06.04.15South Africa: Packing Inspiration

Yikes! I am way overdue on my posting, but a few things have happened since my last one… I turned 26, we spent a week at the Outer Banks of NC with dear friends, I enrolled in NYU’s Masters in Publishing: Digital and Print Media program starting this Fall, my husband graduated with his MBA from Darden School of Business at UVA (in the top ten percent of his class!!!), we traveled to White Lake, NC for a week, and we traveled to NYC to find a new apartment. Busy times, to say the least!

Now, we’re days away from a long-anticipated trip to South Africa! Ever since we decided on Rob going to business school, we dreamed of the trip we would take to celebrate his graduation and savor lots of time together before beginning our next chapter in New York. We will be in Cape Town for a week (and get to see some friends who live in SA), then on to our 3-night safari at Phinda Private Game Reserve on the other side of the country. We will even get to celebrate our second anniversary while on our safari!

South Africa is heading into winter and wet season (though optimal game-viewing season!), so packing requires a bit more thinking in terms of layers, waterproof options, etc. The temperature will range from low 50s to mid 60s in Cape Town. We will be doing a variety of activities, including hiking Table Mountain, exploring the Winelands, and ferrying to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Then there’s the safari! Since I’m not spending money on once-in-a-lifetime safari clothes, I’m working with what I already have. Doesn’t hurt that I love neutrals!
