On a recent beautiful weekend, my sister, husband, and I stopped in at Bold Rock Cidery in the Blue Ridge Mountains (Nellysford, VA near Wintergreen). While they had been making their hard cider there for years, they recently opened a tasting room and space to relax, picnic, and sip refreshing cider. We were welcomed with a free tasting of two of their ciders and then we decided to get glasses to take out to the back deck and enjoy the gorgeous views. Stephanie loved the Pear Cider, and Rob and I loved the Vat No. 1 (like a champagne cider).
After finishing our drinks, we took a walk down the hill where lots of families were picnicking. A beautiful creek runs through the property and the surrounding mountains are so lush this time of year. I already knew I loved Bold Rock Cider (I’ve ordered the Virginia Apple in many restaurants in Charlottesville), but their outpost experience was so perfect. I can’t wait to return in a couple weeks for a birthday picnic there!
