Hail, the heaven born Prince of Peace
Hail, the Son of Righteousness
Light and life to all He brings
Risen with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
For the past six months or so, I’ve been pretty affected by depressing, disturbing news around the world, around our country, and even around my own small town. I know the world we live in is a broken one, and it has been for a long, long time… but the state of our world has just felt particularly troubling to me lately, especially when things hit so close to home.
The other night, Rob and I joined a crowd at the Darden School of Business for a night of Christmas carols with a couple students leading us on the piano and violin. We got to one of my long-time favorites, “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” and, singing the last two verses, my heart filled with hope. Yes, this world is broken. Injustice, violence, intolerance, and hatred abound. But (and how thankful I am that there is a “but”), Jesus came into just that kind of world to heal, to show another way, and to offer light and life to all – forever.
Glory to the newborn King.
