I love the Irish heritage that I get from my dad’s side of the family (despite my pale and prone-to-sunburn skin), and I love how much my grandparents cherish it. When I was fourteen, my sister and I even got to go to Ireland with my Grandma to see where our family came from and to meet a relative who still lives there as a nun in Limerick. That was such a special trip and a tiny peek into my family’s past – one I will treasure forever. Ireland is a country of so much natural beauty and life – from the rolling green hills to the friendliest people I’ve ever encountered in my travels. I love having a part of Ireland in me!
This prayer below is one that I’ve known forever, as it’s written, embroidered, framed, etc. all over my grandparents’ house in Columbus. Since they weren’t able to attend our wedding, I wanted to include it in our ceremony so that we’d have a piece of them with us. It was spoken by our officiant as our benediction right before we recessed down the aisle as husband and wife.
