07.18.13Weekend in the Hamptons

You’ve probably heard the hype about the Hamptons. That New Yorkers leave the city mass-exodus style every Friday in the summer to their house in the Hamptons. That the houses are stunning and huge. That the towns are quaint and sophisticated. That every other car you see is a Range Rover.

Well, the hype is true. We rented a house with about 12 other people for a weekend in the Hamptons, and got to experience that life for all of 48 hours. We stayed in East Hampton, grilled out, chatted in the hot tub, played games in the pool, read on the front porch, explored the town center, visited Main Beach, had a [painful] volleyball match – tip: always use a fully inflated ball, checked out some massive and gorgeous homes, brunched in Sag Harbor… not bad for a weekend! It really was a quiet, peaceful, beautiful escape. So much greenery! Rob and I had to turn the fan on at night just because it was too eerily quiet without it – we must be used to that background noise of NYC now.

How beautiful are these houses?! I loved our walk back from the beach, peering through hedges lining properties and over white picket fences to see the beautiful architecture and perfectly manicured lawns and gardens. I sure wouldn’t hate a vacation home out in the Hamptons! Everything about the area was exactly how it’s portrayed in the movies/TV… Something Borrowed, anyone?

These next photos were taken in Sag Harbor on Sunday, when we had beautiful weather. I wish we had more time to explore this adorable waterfront town – next time, right? ;-). However, it reminded me of a northern version of Beaufort, NC, where I visited with some girlfriends during my Bachelorette weekend

A few pointers for a weekend in the Hamptons:

  1. Rent a house that’s not on beach-front property to save some $$$. Ours still had a huge pool, hot tub, and yard to enjoy. And I enjoyed those aspects more than the beach itself.
  2. If you’re renting a car to drive out, go as early as possible Friday (consider a half-day of work). Our group left after work and hit rush hour + rain. Four hours later, and we were there.
  3. Have Fresh Direct deliver groceries straight to the house you’re renting.

So jealous! I’ve always wanted to visit the Hamptons. Especially after watching Revenge/Something Borrowed, etc. I’m glad you had a great weekend there!
