05.10.13Hope for New York: Young Supporters Benefit

In a city with a population of more than 8 million, the ratio of street homelessness in New York is 1 to 2,506 (source). Hope for New York’s mission is to provide volunteer and financial resources to organizations serving the poor and marginalized of New York City. Their vision “is a city in which individuals and communities experience spiritual, personal, social and economic well-being through the demonstration of Christ’s love.” The organization mobilizes volunteers and grants to best make an impact in this city.

Hope for New York utilizes church affiliates to help make the biggest impact, which is how Rob and I learned of the organization. Both Redeemer and Apostles are two church affiliates, and we’ve had opportunities to serve our community through the partnership. We’ve been impressed with the way Hope for New York reaches so many people with the love of Christ and also helps them get back on their feet, transforming lives entirely.

Last night we had the opportunity to attend the Young Supporters Benefit with some wonderful friends. We got to mix and mingle and then hear from a director at HFNY, a client whose life has been completely changed for the better, and a stellar volunteer in the Resume Workshop program – our very own friend & groomsman, Drew Allenspach. The evening was so wonderful because the more I learn about the work and impact of HFNY, the more I want to be a part of its mission. Check them out – and maybe you can be a part of it too :-).
