Summer Streets is an annual celebration of healthy recreation and sustainable forms of transportation. On three consecutive Saturdays in August, seven miles of NYC’s streets are closed to traffic and opened for people to run, walk, and bike. With rest stops and activities stretching along the whole route, there is plenty of fun to take in!
Held between 7:00 am to 1:00 pm on August 1, 8, and 15, Summer Streets extends from the Brooklyn Bridge to up Park Avenue, around Grand Central Terminal, and along Park Avenue up to 72nd Street, where the route connects into Central Park. All activities at Summer Streets are free of charge, and designed for people of all ages and ability levels.
This Saturday is the last Summer Streets of 2015, so be sure to take advantage if you’re in NYC! Last weekend, Rob and I biked the 7 miles to the Brooklyn Bridge and circled back up, which was incredible. This weekend, I think we’ll go for a run along the route!
